The original Grimms Fairytale is toned down a bit and some humor added for good measure. This was the first show produced by the Melikin Puppets. It was later re-produced and put into the variety series. Not wanting to make Gretel the “bad guy” a new hero, Tidy the Broom, is introduced to “do in” the witch.

The 1967 version was produced using the 12-inch, latex-head hand puppets. When it was re-produced, the larger polyfoam puppets were used.

The collection was originally produced as individual shows for shopping centers. They were written and staged for younger theatre audiences (3-10 years). While researching the stories, it was discovered that not all 23 of them could effectively be staged, so a select few were chosen. These shows can be purchased separately or as a set.

The traditional story by Clement C. Moore gets a Melikin twist. It tells the classic tale through the eyes of the family dog. Once Santa has delivered all the gifts, he realizes that Woofer didn’t receive anything. That is remedied and Santa is on his way. But what is Woofer’s special gift? Special effects include Santa “filling” the stocking with candies and gifts for the children.
